The results of the NTMscope-Eco project are published!
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria are ubiquitous environmental organisms that can often be found in aquatic environments. In this, study we investigated their presence in household water samples from Germany. The NTM-species most frequently detected were M. chelonae and M. chimaera. When set into a global context by whole genome sequencing, the strains turned out to be part of globally distributed lineages.
